The European Commission registered the controversial pro abortion ECI “My Voice, My Choice” on the grounds that what it is petitioning for does not lie manifestly outside the Commission’s powers to propose a legal act of the Union for the purpose of implementing the Treaties. In particular, the Commission claims that financial support for the facilitation of abortion tourism between Member States “could fall within the Union’s supporting competence (Article 168(5) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, TFEU)”.

The European Commission prepares to respond on the 25th of February 2026 to the “My Voice, My Choice” (MVMC) European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI), which is calling for the Commission to fund abortion tourism within the EU.

Some questions contain their own answers. It is well known that the European Commission is not exactly in the habit of providing meaningful answers to critical questions from Parliament. In this respect, the question posed by some MEPs regarding the financing of ‘My Voice, My Choice’ is probably less aimed at obtaining information and more at letting the Commission know that they have seen through the game being played here.

The Holy Father’s annual address at the New Year’s reception for representatives of the diplomatic corps is an important opportunity each year to communicate to the world how the Catholic Church views the political situation.

This year’s address, the first by the new Pope in a pontificate that could last for many years, is particularly significant. Among other things, the pontiff expresses deep concern over the European pro-abortion citizens’ initiative “My Voice, My Choice”, which, despite having received far less support from “ordinary” citizens than we did with our pro-life initiative in 2014, is being energetically promoted by the left to extreme-left political spectrum in the EP and within the European Commission, while meeting only half-hearted (if any) resistance from centrist or allegedly “Christian Democrat” politicians.

The hearing of the organizers of the abortion initiative “My Voice, My Choice” was carefully choreographed by the relevant committee chairpersons, all of whom belong to the left-wing and extreme left-wing political spectrum, so that dissenting voices would get as little airtime as possible. The organizers of the initiative were given ample speaking time (which is justified in itself), but the speaking time allocated to parliamentarians was also distributed extremely unevenly so that the initiators of the initiative and Commissioner Hadja Lahbib, who was extremely uncritical of them, would not be confronted with critical questions.
