To show the beginning of human life, from fertilization, and its development in the mother’s womb until birth, so that “those who must legislate can first see and experience firsthand what science demonstrates.” This is the goal of the exhibition “Just EUman – How a European Citizen Is Born,” which opened today at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, in the Emilio Colombo Space of the Weiss Building. The exhibition was promoted by MEP Paolo Inselvini (ECR) and curated by Pro Vita & Famiglia. Among those attending the event were MEPs Carlo Fidanza, Nicola Procaccini, Mariateresa Vivaldini, Sergio Berlato, Marion Maréchal Le Pen, Margarita de la Pisa Carrión, and Elisabeth Dieringer-Granza.
The initiative consists of fourteen two-meter-high panels and a looping projection of the video ‘Baby Oliver’, which has been visible since yesterday and will be until Thursday, September 17. “This is a historic day, because we are doing something that has never been done before here: making the origin of life visible and placing it before the eyes of those who, in these places, decide the future of millions of unborn children. We are doing this on the eve of Ursula von der Leyen’s State of the Union address tomorrow, right here,” said Maria Rachele Ruiu, spokesperson for Pro Vita & Famiglia, who launched an appeal and a provocation: “We always hear about ‘choice,’ ‘care,’ ‘reproductive rights,’ ‘self-determination,’ and ‘My voice, my choice.’ All words to hide the face of the unborn child, to deny the humanity of the conceived, to cover up the reality of a practice that results in the elimination of millions of human beings across Europe. Do you want to defend abortion?” Ruiu declared. “Go ahead, but for what it truly is, for what these panels today do not demonstrate: not the suppression of a clump of cells, but of a human life.”
Ruiu also recalled that the European Parliament “in recent months has been at the forefront of extremely serious decisions, including a phantom ‘right’ to abortion in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the Union and establishing that the European Social Fund Plus can finance access to abortion in Member States. From now on, no one in Europe will be able to vote on abortion by pretending it doesn’t involve the elimination of a human being.”
Also present at the inauguration was Antonio Brandi, president of Pro Vita & Famiglia, who emphasized that “a society is not judged by the law of the strongest, but by how much effort it makes to protect its weakest and most vulnerable members, such as the unborn. And without the right to life, there can be no other rights, because without life there is no person, without a person there is no common good, without a common good there is no just society, and without a just society there is no peace. Let’s stop this genocide!” Brandi concluded.
“Until recently, bringing an exhibition in defense of nascent life into the European Parliament seemed impossible, but today that voice is finally entering these institutions, and it does so with pride and without retreating an inch. We are here, and this is only the beginning,” said MEP Paolo Inselvini of the ECR group, while MEP Carlo Fidanza thanked Pro Vita & Famiglia for its work despite the constant attacks it faces, aiming to censor its voice.
